Sebastian Errazuriz recently traveled to his native Chile to create a symbol of hope for 33 trapped miners. Done in conjunction with Departmento 21 gallery in Santiago, Errazuriz created the 33-story high cross with over 350 fluorescent lights. Called Tower Santa Maria, it can be seen from many kilometers away. Errazuriz says his inspiration to create the piece came from "a South American tradition of lighting candles to saints in hopes they will look after their loved ones. The cross represents them and us in silence and as a symbol of the fragility of life...
