Cristina Grajales Gallery is very excited to announce Sebastian Errazuriz's participation in ULTRABODY, an exhibition at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, Italy. Curated by Beppe Finessi and staged by Civita Servizi, ULTRABODY is an exposition project between architecture and applied arts, fashion design and science; a selection of works telling about anthropology, communication, costume, society, technology, aesthetic and needs of our time.

A research on infinite relationships between oneself and the rest of the world; visitors will attend through a deep impact cognitive tour – at times techno sensorial also – about the body’s big theme, overshooting the bounds, shuffling and producing new means among the worlds of art, design, architecture, technology, fashion design, and science.

ULTRABODY opens on April 18th.

Cristina Grajales is very excited to be a part of the 2011 National Conference, "Tomorrow's Challenge: Valuing Art & Design in the 21st Century."The conference is held from Novmber 13th-15th in New York City. Cristina will be part of a panel discussion on Monday, November 14th. She along with Melissa Gagen and Robert Passal will be discussing the topic: "Current Trends in Interior Design: What you will be Appraising in the Future." The first major retrospective of Sheila Hicks's work, Sheila Hicks: 50 Years, closes February 27th at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts and opens at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania on March 25th.

The Addison Gallery is organizing a comprehensive traveling exhibition of the work of Sheila Hicks. Sheila Hicks: 50 Years marks the first museum retrospective devoted to this exceptional American artist. Co-curated by independent scholar Joan Simon and Addison curator Susan Faxon, the exhibition will open soon at the Addison Gallery and will be touring to various venues.

Born in Hastings, Nebraska in 1934 and a resident of Paris since 1964, Hicks is a pioneering figure noted for objects and public commissions whose structures are built of color and fiber. Independent in spirit and itinerant in practice, she deliberately and provocatively engages what are often considered mutually exclusive domains, rethinking and pushing the limits of generally accepted contexts, conditions, and frameworks. These include distinct objects and temporal, performative actions, studio works and commissions for public buildings, and textiles made in artisanal workshops or for industrial production in places as different from one another as Chile, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Sweden, and the United States.

The exhibition will address Hicks's conceptual, procedural, and material concerns via five distinct though intimately related fields of inquiry: miniature weavings and drawings, site commissions for public spaces, industrially produced textiles and workshop hand-productions, bas reliefs and sculptures, and, process works made of recuperated textiles, clothing and other found objects.

Sebastian Errazuriz recently traveled to his native Chile to create a symbol of hope for 33 trapped miners. Done in conjunction with Departmento 21 gallery in Santiago, Errazuriz created the 33-story high cross with over 350 fluorescent lights. Called Tower Santa Maria, it can be seen from many kilometers away. Errazuriz says his inspiration to create the piece came from "a South American tradition of lighting candles to saints in hopes they will look after their loved ones. The cross represents them and us in silence and as a symbol of the fragility of life.”
