José Parlá: Layered Days is the first New York solo show of artist, returning for his first exhibition in New York since his 2004 group show at the Chelsea Art Museum.
Heir to the tradition of Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Parlá, first explored the fundamentals of his art form on the street. Parlá’s canvases are complex layers that delve into the human experience within the urban environment and serve as a recording of emotional events. His layers of paints are representative of the layers of life, documenting the passage of days. His rhythmic, poetic style evokes the memories and experience of life.
The exhibition is comprised of new works on canvas, watercolors as well as ceramic pieces. A limited edition catalogue will be published to accompany this exhibition.
