Betil Dagdelen at The O'Keeffe: Welcome Center

Posted: 4 August, 2020.
Vital Spaces, in partnership with 516 ARTS and The Paseo Project, announces Betil Dagdelen’s participation in Windows on the Future, a series of storefront art installations that will take place across Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Taos this August.
Windows on the Future turns storefront and commercial windows into art installations. The community is invited to walk and drive past installations in an effort to exhibit art safely during the current social distancing guidelines and safety measures.
Dagdelen’s project considers geological coring methods as a metaphor for the future. The project reveals the interconnectivity between soil, the natural world, and human civilizations. Much like Vasilii Dokuchaev suggested in his 1883 thesis, the Russian Chernozem, Dagdelen’s work considers soil as the fourth natural kingdom. A soil profile carries the power not only to record the past but also the potential to predict the future.
